Here's our latest on Añasco:
Update 11/30/2017. Initial assessment was 11/17/2017 - an interval of 13 days. All areas have regained some capacity. Municipality still depends on delivery of water and food, especially in the highlands. We give this an overall Behind Plan. This is a Med-High confidence assessment based on the amount of data we were able to gather in the municipality. Specific details are:
Schools: 8 out of 12 public schools are open. This is unchanged from the assessment.
Communication: 7 of 15 cell towers are out of service (an outage rate of 46.7%). One more tower has been put in service since assessment.
Medical Access: No hospitals open in Anasco according to Status PR. The AEE power grid map shows the hospital in Anasco as back on the grid. There is no confirmation that it is open. There are 6 EPAP pharmacies. Per private conversation with a resident, there is good access to hospitals in Mayaguez, 20 minutes away.
Water: As recently as Nov. 26, bottled water was being distributed in Anasco, according to the municipality facebook page. Per personal conversation with a resident who has water service - his family is still using bottled water as they do not trust the water quality. An article in elnuevodia reports service interruptions caused by problems with electrical generators in filtration plants, pumping stations or dams in Añasco.
Electricity: AEE map shows 12 sites with grid power in Anasco. A post on Puerto Rico Maria Update on Nov 3 reports lights on in at least one place in Anasco. A post on November 18 reports lights in another sector. Another post on 11/25/2017 reports 66 days with no lights in barrio Carreras.
Food: As recently as 11/27, Red Cross and RSA delivered food and water to Anasco.
Roads: No roads are shown as closed on Google Maps. Local resident says roads in the highlands are still closed or near closed.
Items of note: Aid continues to be delivered in the remote areas of the municipality. Heavy rain continue to damage roads.
